at assisting certain persons to earn a lucrative and somewhat elegant living in the profession-. education in citizenship, it is fell, might well be the main function of the State. The pupil who. in addition to being a good citizen seeks also to win academic distinction should be left to do so more by bis own exertion. Out of the conflict of opinion a universally acceptable educational ideal may yet emerge.
