FARM SCHOOLS.

The following circular lias boon issued by the Fields Instructor of Westland During last autumn and early winter, the Department of Agriculture held farm schools throughout the main districts of Now Zealand. These schools proved very successful and valuable. A farm or winter school was held in Hokitika last winter, organised and conducted under the auspices of the Westland branch of the Canterbury Progress League and Canterbury College. The subject of farm schools on the Coast was brought up at a meeting of the West Const A. and I*, and 1. Association by Mr .Muli-aro of Ngahare. The Department of Ay'ri: ulturn is quite wising. I understand to increase these school-, throughout. the Dominion. if siifiieiently live iiiien st and support sis given. The question of travelling-schools or the holding of a school in a convenient centre (provided suitable buddings are to be had) lias been discussed, and it is felt that, although the travelling schools system lias many line Cultures to recommend it, the henehts occuring from the meeting of farmers from various districts and tin- opportunity thus given for general discussions in the different phases of fanning, overrule to a great extent tie’ beu-Cits derived from a travelling who.!. It is however, a matter lor i-iww lore t i ni of the districts affected. I feel a-suivd that a farm school held for a weak during ! lie winter months on the Const would prove valj];!m., to id! < an erned. 1 should like, therein:-.- n receive any views ol the kindred A. ami I*. As-weiations, and Farmers' Colons, and also heady assistance in pu-iiiag on this maiLcr to n successful issue. s.wo-3.'»cy:'rv-:^irv.s*arr'.c'rst**s«
