In respect to the letter from the Sexton referred to the Cemetery Committee, I beg to report that the object of placing the sexton under the direction of the Overseer was to ensure uniform control in respect to the Borough staff. The Overseer has the opportunity of visiting tlie grounds frequently and can. direct attention to work which it is possible for the sexton to perform without reference to the Council or to the Cemetery Committee. There is much that is required to he done and the duty will lie cast upon the Overseer of seeing that the work is carried out. or where more work is necessary than tiic sexton can readily do, to report as to the extra assistance considered necessary. 'The sexton will continue to carry out his special duties as before, lint all work will he supervised directly by the Overseer on behalf of the Council, thus ensuring more direct control.
It is necessary that the request tor the diary to In* kept should be complied with. This is not unusual but is generally expected where local bodies employees are engaged, particularly when they are working in isolated places. The diary report sent in each month would be as useful a record for the sextion, as the information will bo valuable to the Council.—Received. From Manager Abattoirs, (Mr J. Jarman) ieparting for December thero were examined:—o cows, 22 heifers, ill bullocks, 288 sheep, 289 lambs, 9 pigs, I calves: nothing condemned. Total fees. CB2 (is.—Received.
