It Ims been decided to teprint the Old Testament in the Maori language, •mil it is understood that with t Id-ol,jc-ct in view Archdeacon Williams will proceed to London at his own expense in order to superintend the work. It is estimated that the cost will he- £3,000. In connexion with the proposal, Mr Hex ,T 'Rutherford, at a recent meeting of the Maori Synod at (Haiti, made an interesting statement regarding tho work of the late Mr domes H. Pope, well known all over New Zealand as superintendent ol Mann schools.® Mr Rutherford referred to hint as “a real friend of the Maori people, who had passed to his rest. ' and added : “Before lie died he handed me it small sum of money, part ol the proceeds front the sale of a L-ok he had written (‘Health of the Maori ) asking me to look after the money and use it as I thought best 111 preserving tho purity of the Maori langunee. There is an opportunity now. The edition of the Old Testament m Maori is out of print, the type broken up, and it is proposed to reprint it. with corrections from the best Maori scholars in New Zealand. So I propose to hand over this money, wlnc.t now amounts to between £oo •»td £OO. to the. British and Foreign B> ne Society, as a help towards the great expense they are incurring in tins matter. Before doing so. I wish to get your consent on behalf of the Maori people, and to suggest that the gift be made in memory of our pood oU friend, the late Air .Tames H. Dope." Tho Maoris, cordially and unanimously approved of the proposal.

Taylor and Gregory cannot come, but Macartney, Bardsley. Collins, Hendry, Andrews, Bailey. Oldfield, Kelleway and Kippax are available. These players alone would practically make an Australian eleven of the side. Besides them. Punch. Wells, Scott, Everett, and Gray are spoken of. all first-class men.
