AMUSEMENTS.

“THE TOREADOR.” A SUCCESSFUL PRESENTATION. The (.Ireymouth Amateurs were greeted with an excellent house at the Princess Theatre last evening when they presented Cnrgyll and Moncton’s tuneful comic opera “The Toreador.” From the opening scene the play went very smoothly, and the audience fully enjoyed the production. The mountings and dressings were excellently dune, while the lighting effects added gratly to the general success. The whole production was staged under the direction of Mr Leu McGlashlan. and was remarkable for its evenness. There was not a dull moment from start to finish. A capital orchestra under the baton of Mr F. Restieaux. ably assisted and their music was much enjoyed. The leading role, that of .Susan, a (lower seller, was taken by Miss Madge Wilson, who is remembered foi her clever pourtrayals here before under the late Mr Pollard's baton. Throughout she took the part daintily while her solo numbers were excellently given. Miss Nita Hopkins was seen to advantage as Donne Teresa (a Carlist) and won special favor with her solo "My Toreador.” Mrs ('. Moss as Mrs Hoppings, a. rich widow, was also placed well and aeted gracefully, her solo work being very pleasiugs. Miss N. McCarthy as Xaniiv. and Miss K. Hannan as Dora also sustained their parts in good style, the former making a hit as a hoy, while her solos were nicely rendered. The principal male parts were taken by Mr Kos Skoglnnd as I’el ti for, and liis fine stage appearance and easy manner made bis part very effective. Mr AV. McGrath as Sir Archibald and Mr T. O’ 1 lallaban as Trail made a success of their parts, while Air D. Douglas as the Toreador was seen to decided advantage, his songs being excellently given. The humor of the production fell mainly on Sammy, Air Lett Afcfilashan, and throughout his rollicking humor kept the audience in full enjoyment of the many comical situations that arose, the scene at Villnyn on arrival being a particularly clever one. A fine chorus well dressed. and seven l l Indicts and dances carried the piny along with great success, the whole production being most cnioyyiilo. TO-NIGHT.
