WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB.
SUMMER MEETING. The annual meeting of the Westland Trotting Club took place yesterday afternoon on the Hokitika racecourse, after two postponements caused by tho weather. The night was wet and stormy, but as the morning "ore on the conditions improved though there was a sharp shower about 10 o’clock. After that hour the day was tine, and the afternoon was pleasant, though overcast. As a result ot the inclement night and conditions of the early morning, the attendance suffered considerably, though there was a very fair gathering present. The track was heavy at- tho
stall, but was improving rapidly as the day wore on. There were large Helds throughout, and the trotting was capital, there being some very line finishes, especially that for the 'Westland Exhibition Handicap where Wicklow Roy snatched a victory by a short head on the post, the driver F. Holmes ,Jr.. beating his father by lhat narrow margin, who was driving Hmnlini. The totalisator investments showed a falling off of £llsO, amounting to £7191), as against £9349 last year. The 10s investment ticket appeared in great favor, a. majority of the punters availing themselves of tho smaller valued ticket for investment. The Town Rand was present and played an excellent programme. Two protests were, onteVod during the afternoon, but in each case were dismissed. After the riders in the Rimu Dredge Handicap had weighed in, Mr F. McGregor (President) congratulated the winning owner of Major Dome, (Mr R. Longelly) on his success, and Mr S. AV. Ford, on behalf of tho Rimu Dredging Coy. presented the handsome silver cup given as a trophy. The race for tho AYestlnnd Exhibition Handicap was a 'fine one and Afr AleGregor subsequently presented the Licensed Victuallers Cup to Afr AY. T. Lowe, the winning owner, congratulating him on the success achieved. A handsome driving whip, donated bv Air Snell of tho Railway Hotel was also presented the winning jockey. F. Holmes Jr. The various officials were all attentive to their duties and the afternoon passed off pleasantly. The gate tak-

Admiral Pointer Loon took command from Matchwood and Logie's Coronado, and led ail the way.
