Those newspapers which favoured the League stressed the fact that ti e prize w inner logically, could evolve nothing better, while the opposition newspapers condemn the plan, some even declaring it is obvious the League propaganda is engendered by those who decline to lake the Senate's decision as tinai. The ‘‘New York World" and ■‘'limes' 1 endorse the plan. '1 he ‘Tleii'ld" stales the winnei only needed to consider the judges, whose chairman is Mr Eiiliu .Root, to know what sort of plan would win their favour. Another paper says the winner’s plan i- an attempt to eonipromise the issue that arose between the opponents and proponents of the League. A Portland (Oregon) ‘papetr says only it few oppose the League because of a fear of being wounded in their piirlr of opinion. The ‘‘Minneapolis tribune" remarks there is nothing in the plan to bring America much harm, or the world much good. OCEAN I’ARK DESTROYED. XEYV Y'ORK, January 7. Atlvices from Los Angelos states that Ocean Park, California’s greatest amusement playground was destroyed by lire. The loss was a million sterling. The fire was most, spectacular. Forty firemen were injiued by burns or falls, hut none fatally.
