It is expected Hint the proceedings will last for only an hour, for the election of a Speaker. Thereat tor tho swearing in of the Alemhcrs will occupy tile remainder of the week. In flic meantime, Air Asquith is being .subjected to continuous pressure from a section of his supporters and the Liberal press to refrain from joining the Labourites to overthrow tho Baldwin Cabinet immediately. There is no sign, however, that- ho has changed his altitude from that of his December speech. LABOUR PARTY ACTIA’E. LONDON, Jan. 8. The Labourites at present are ho most active Party. Their Executive meets to-day. and a great .roily follows in ilie evening at the Albert Hall, the applications to attend which, would fill the hall several times over. LABOUR’S PLANS. LONDON, Jan. S. The “Daily Express” says: The Socialists’ plans incTu'.U drastic unemployment remedies; the recognition of the Soviet Government; an international Peace Conference; and an increase in the old age pensions. The Socialists intend to regard the Budget as the legacy of Mr Baldwin’s Government. and would refuse to accent a Budget defeat as the cause for resignation. It is disclosed that Mr MacDonald, while in Scotland, spent several days with Lord Haldane. WOMAN IN CABINET. LONDON, Jan. 8. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Labour correspondent says: Air MacDonald will probably make a new departure by including a woman in the Cabinet, namely, .Miss Margaret Bondiield, who for upwards of 20 years has been a Trade Union Socialist worker. It is suggested that she will fill the post of Labour or Health Minister. LONDON lIY E-ELECTION. LONDON. Jan. 7. The City of London Liberal Association lias decided to light the byeelection due to Lord Hanbttry’s elevation to the peerage.
