EXHIBITION FLOWER SHOW.
Arrangements are well forward for tho Exhibition Flower Show which takes place on Jammr<| 23rd and 24th. The Secretary, Mr .1. Timbrel], has just returned from a visit to Christchurch, where he met many horticulturists, who promised to give tile Exhibition every assistance, ami quite a large number of exhibits will he sent over. The nurserymen. including Nairn and Sons, I). Bradbury, \\m. Bayliss and Sou, and .J. Muir and Co., have asked for space for trade exhibits. Mr Timbrell visited the sweet pea and carnation show while in Christchurch, which was a very line exhibition of flowers, the carnations, sweet peas and gladioli being exceptionally line. The latter (lower has made great strides with cow fertiliser. The variety of colour is wonder!ul, some growers having as many as twe hundred varieties. Christchurch which is a garden city has suffered very much with the continuous north-west winds which have prevailed since October, an.l the hose has to he kept continuously in use. The weather has also had a very marked effect on the crops, many not being worth leaping. A number of places where peas were grown by the acre for the 'Xmas market only grew to three indies in height. These conditions are in marked contrast to the weather prevailing on the AA'esl Coast. Schedules for the Exhibition Flowei Show may he had from the Secretary, P.O. Hokitika.
