The forthcoming annual conference ol the New Zealand branch of theBritish Medical Association will open in Auckland on February 29th, and will conclude oil .March titli. It is anticipated that delegates will number between 200 and 300, representing all parts of New Zealand, and including men from America, and Australia. Air \Y. Mavo, the world-famous American surgeon, from the Mayo clinic at Rochester, New Jersey, will be among the overseas visitors. The attendance this
year will be much larger than at the last conference, which was held at Christchurch. To facilitate the business, a new arrangement in regard to various papets and meetings has been made, the programme being divided into three sections—surgical, medical, and special. At a Labour l’arty rally last niglii the speakers included Mr Rider Fra.-or and Mr Monleith of Wellington, and Mr Cooke, a Christchurch City Councillor who will coldest Mr Xosworthy’s seat. Speeches were delivered from tip. balcony of .Somerset Hotel, the Mayor presiding. .Mr Cooke -aid Labour m office, meant prosperity for tile masses. Mr .Monleith pointed to the phenomenal labour popularity in Britain, which would be similarly revealed m New Zealand, due to the failure of the present parties to deal with pressing
social and economic problem-. He denied that Labour opposed the Dairy Control Bill, but warmly supported its principle, and assailed the rebate to wealthy landowners, which ought to have been devoted to an increase if pensions.
