BY AERIAL TRANSIT. It was a" new experience for IJukitikians to witness an aeroplane circling over the town last evening and flying bird-like and with graceful swiftness overhead. The machine circled art"i the manner of birds, and poised, swooped, and looped by way of variety. The evolutions w ere all of .great interest, and were watched hv a large assemblage
of people from the streets below. C ontain Buchloy who arrived her
few days ago va- in charge of the machine, an Ami of 110 h.p. from the Government aerodrome at Sockburn, had with him Mr W. Harrington, meehanie. It was a trial run, and passed off most successfully. The machine had been assembled the day previously on a field in No: ih Reii'll Street adjacent >o the ocean beach, and during the day the engine was tried out. The evening was pleasantly still and clear, and the conditions were ideal lor flying. Shortly after 8 o'clock an unusual whirring sound was to he heard overhead, and folk looking no were surprised to sec an aeroplane making its course towards the river front. The machine passed -wilblv over the town to the river, and above the railway bridge it hovered tor a short time, performing various evolutions, Tho-e in the mnelnnc could he -ecu. and a friendly " live indicated that all wa- well. The machine was under ncrfeol control. It is a new aeroplane, and has had very little work, beyond it-, trial -pins helm o being sent to Hokitika, where it will operate daily while the Exhibition
