A COMPLAINT.

(To the Editor). sir,— I wish to call your attention to the grave inconvenience caused to pedestrians using that iiortior. of Stafford St., between T'itzherbgrt; and Sewell Streets by tlie way the railway authorities are doing tlieir shunting operations. As you are aware it will bp .some considerable time before the o\v: head bridge is constructed and a clear crossing was to bo loft in the meantime. Yet what do we find. Day after day a long line of trucks stretching right across Stafford St., is left standing. In some .uses it stretches past the Convent and those using the

patJi have to make i wide detour to , re-- the line. Occasionally residents haw to make use of Hampden St., to ica(lied homes in that portion of the town between Hampden St., and Stafford St. Not alone is the lino of trucks left .standing during the day, hut also during the l ight. Grave as the inconvenience is during the day. it i- nothing comparable with the inconvenience at night, as no lights are on the trucks to shew pedestrians the way or to permit them to pass with a minimum of inconvenience. The only lights are one candle power lanterns, one placed midway in Sewell St., between the Convent corner and the Statioamaster’s residence, and the other midway in Fitzhorbert St., betwen the Central Hotel Corner and the Pioneer monument! ! ! Further they are placed on a low level each about 50 yards from the line of trucks. The other night two elderly women coming from town, in crossing the street- had to go up along the line and in crossing the line, fell owing to the darkness. You can judge the shock they suffered. One indeed suffered injuries in addition. A serious accident will eventually occur if the position is not remedied. Surely if i, not asking too much of the authorities to see that the trucks are so shunted that if the whole roadway cannot he left clear, a clear crossing will lie left, and further that n suffir iont light should be placed on the truck nearest the Convent crossing at night. T trust, that this letter will have the desired effect.—l am etc., ■PEDESTRIAN.
