BRITISH & INTERCOLONIAL EXHIBITION.
The attendance at the Exhibition yesterday during the day was well up to tiie average, while at night the gathering was a large one including a large contingent of townspeople who assembled to hear the .Hokitika Orehcstia. At night the three .Ministerial laities attended the Exhibition, and made the round of the exhibition stands, including an inspection of the interesting agricultural and forestry displays upstairs in the Town Hall.
The Hokitika Orchestra under tho dilection of .Mr AV. IC. Berry played mi tile hand stand from S to 10 o'clock last evening, a number attending to enjoy the musie. A well varied pTogiamme was rendered and was greatly enjoyed by those present. To-day the weather is beautifully fine and promises well over the holidays. The arirval of the holiday visitors has commenced, but the main contingents wili reach here to-morrow and Monday evenings. The local trains are being well patronised, and over next week there is sure to he a large influx oi visitors for the races and other functions who are sure to extend their
pata-onaga to the Exhibition. Meals and refreshments may lie obtained at all hours within the Exhibition, where substantial meals are supplied at midday and six o’clock at very reasonable rates, and with a good sendee. To-night will he a late night tor the dance fixed to confluence at. 8.30 o’clock,
To-morrow night the Christchurch singers will appear in two performances, for which distinctive programmes will lx: given. The first concert commences at 8 o’clock sharp, when all the members of this talented combination wili appear in separate numbers. At 9.17 o’ch.ek the second concert will begin, closing just alter toil. Inis will vmili’o those engaged in the shops and 1 usiness ] laces to hear the company. The admission to each concert will be one shilling. Tic idea ol the two conceits iu the one evening seems a very good one, and will give a larger number of people the opportunity of hearing the line talented ladies and gentlemen who are making this special visit to the Exhibition.
On .Monday night the same company will appear in two programmes every item of which will he changed from the first appearance, while on Xmas night a festival of Christmas music will he submitted, whereat the Kxhihjtun Choir will assist with choral numbers and pint .songs, and the Hokitika Orchestra will render a selection. Early next week a Hying machine will he brought to Hokitika. Captain Binkley of Wellington will arrive about, the 28th. Great interest- is sure to bo cont:ed in the Hying of the aeroplane over the. town and about the district. Arrangements are being made lor aerial photographs of the town and district to he taken. Coming for January stb, and it.h, at tho Orpheus Theatre, Exhibition Buildings. js the Kdgeware Quartette, 'lhi.s is an excellent combination, and includes the following artists: Aliss Jessie Dull, soprano; Aliss Vera l aiwry, eonlialto; Air \'. C. Peters, tenor; and B. Robson, bass. The party will be further augmented by Mr H. Histone who will give some line turns in character. and is a humorist of the very first rank. Further particulars of this entertaining party will lie given later.

A meeting of the Finance Commute. of the Exhibition Executive was held at the Town H»U yesterday afternoon. Air G. A. Perry (Chairman of Finance) presiding. The Treasurer .subjoined a statement .showing the receipts to date wore £2,272 8s 3d, while the expenditure had been £2,8G7 10s l-. 1. DERRY'S BAND. COAIING FOB. THE EXHIBITION. Air R. Wild, a member of the Exhibition Council, who returned from Christchurch yesterday brought back particulars of the band's tour being arranged in connection with the Exhibition . Derry's Alilitnry Band will arrive in Hokitika from Christchurch liv the express oil Friday, January lltii., ready for the grand concert which is to be given at the Orpheus Hall in the evening. era in visiting the town, and it will bo an exceptional opportunity of hearing a ffirst-elnss performance not often available. The programme will include the fantasia, “A Day at West Point”, describing a day’s work at a military academy; the Andante Con Moto and Allegro uii Poeo Agitato from Mendelssohn's Scotch Symphony; tho popular fox trot, “By Heck,” and tho overture “Huy Bias” (Mcndelssohn-Bar-tholdy), with piccolo solo by the loading soloist of the Dominion. A special feature will he “The Smithy in the Woods,” describing night, the approaching dawn, morning breaks, the' resiling brook and the song of the bird-, the chimes of the steeple clock, the morning hymn, and the village smith lighting his forge and starting Ids day's work. This is one of the hand's most popular numbers. The hand's accessories include chimes, timpnus, side and bass drums, etc. It is hoped to arrange an open air performance liv the band at- the racecourse liuring the visit.
