exhibition notes. Although yesterday was what might ho considered an off-day, there was a very fair attendance. The avenues were well filled, but the visitors were able to inspect the exhibits with more comfort. During the day some additional exhibits were staged, and this task will he continued r’-mughoitt the week, as the Melbourne exhibits have still to arrive, as also other New Zealand displays. To-day the interesting exhibit from the Cawthoni Institute of scientific research, is being staged adjacent to the Nelson district cxliilits. The artificial limbs etc., made at Christchurch hospital bv returned soldiers are being displayed, and al-o the very interesting exhibit of polar sledges used by (.'apt. Scott, Shackleton. and Amundsen. 'I here i- still a honey exhibit, and a moving exhibit of St Mungo soap to go up. as also machinery in motion demonstrating a Masterton milking machine. Further furniture and other exhibits arc due to arrive now also, so that by the end of the week all the available space should be filled.

Last night there was a dance in the Orpheus Hall. The music was supulied hy a special Exhibition Orchestra organised hy Mr W. .Joyce, and was voted excellent. Those present enjoyed the evening very much. On Friday night there will be another dance. The dancing commences at 8 o’clock. There was quite a large crowd present it, the evening, the avenues being well filled. The Municipal Band assembled in M.lean drew Square ami played a very pleading .musical programme. Bandmaster C. Boss being in charge. During the evening the I’resilient of the Executive (Mr V. J. Butler) entertained the visiting pressmen at supper: and in the course of a number of short addresses many good wishes were expressed. The I’resident took the occasion to acknowledge the appreciation of the Executive at the very generous as.-istauce given to the enterprise, and the happy imninei in which their effoits. had been helped on hy the press in ail parts. On tlieii part, the pressmen acknowledged their surprise and delight at the very line exhibition, and stated that, the assistance anti courtesy extended to them hy the Executive and especially the Secretary (Air Evans) had made theii work very easy and a pleasure. and they promised every publicity possible to help on the great success already attained. Most, of the visiting pressmen left this morning for the Fast Coast, after a very pleasant stay, expressing keen appreciation of the hospitality extended. To-day the Woodstock, Rimu. and Kanieri school children are attending about 160 strong, and the children are enjoying the exposition very much. To-morrow forenoon the school children front Koitorangi will be attending. Teachers and school committees are invited to notify davs upon which scholars can attend when arrangements will he made tor the visits.

TO SINC AT HOKITIKA. Mr Beruanl Beituell. the well-known Christchurch baritone singer, will sine solos at the Hokitika Exhibition with the Christchurch Concert Party. Mr Beituell is the possessor of a rich, resonant voice, supported by excellent I.'.entiling powers, temperament and stage presence. He is a singer ot faille wide experience, having sting j:‘. various parts of ,\e« Zealand and Australia. He made his first appearance eight years ago. when he sting at competitions in different parts of New Zealand. Being anxious to improve Ids singing. Air Bettnell join neyed to .Sydney last year, and studied hard at the Conservatorium under Mr Koland Foster, the well-known music master. The iexult was that Mr Itennell's voice imptoved wonderfully in range, volume and interpretation of song, lie has had numerous offers to take up the lib* of a professional singer, but he prefers to remain in commercial lilo ami make singing his hobby. Mr Rennell has a splendid lepertoire of music, but is heard at his best in operatic work. He is a singer who is likely to win popular favour on the West Coast.
