Chile is situated on the slopes of the Chile volcano Lo tlie eruption of which the present disaster is attributed. The road from Citmbal to Tpialas is obstructed by great landslides. The full extent of the earthquake is unknown hut numerous surrounding villages are believed to be badly damaged. Many people arc homeless and lack ol food and shelter. Shocks continue mildly, but heavy shocks were felt along the southern frontier of Colombia, tlie village of Carlosnina being destroyed. I’asto, Ipijilex, Tuquenvs mill Ibarra which are in the dire* t. line of the tremors were badly shaken. Serious damage was done at Ipiales. The volcanoes of (.Timbal and Chile continue in active eruption.
