EXHIBITION NOTES. j The school children of Kanieri, I AA'eodstock and Riniti in charge of their teachers are visiting the Exhibition to-morrow afternoon. The children will he admitted free under the control of the school stall. An invitation is extended to other j schools to participate similarly in at- - tending the Exhibition visits, but it is , necessary to notify the general socre- j iarv of the Exhibition at: least, two days in advance ol the intended visit, i On New Year's Night at the Exhibi- ! i-ion then* is to he a Grand la-ap Year Ball. During the season there will he I an Exhibition Ball, as also several j Cabaret nights, for which the Royal i Orchestra under .Mr Joyce is p*repar-. ing special programmes. Among the newly arrived exhibits 1 are -qilints and arniiieia! limbs made by - soldier patients at the Christchurch . hospital. These are being displayed in Canterbury .'venue. To-night there will be the opening dance in the Orpheus llall. commencing at S o' cl irk. Entrance "ill he by the lower Town Hall door, which opens on to t aiiierhiiry avenue. The i music "ill he supplied by the orchestra ! under Mr Joyce's direction. j To-morrow night the Grcyinc-uth Or- 1 ehestral Society will visit the Exhibition and lend a. helping hand. The company is a large one. necessitating tin* temporary enlarging of the stage. : There will he over B‘t pel-formers. Programme sheets are being distributed, and those who attend will enjoy a de- j lightful musical programme. As accommodation is limited early attendance is necessary to secure seating, j Entrance to the bail may be gained : from the Canterbury avenue. The continuous telephone is proving . a great convenience to all concerned with the Exhibition. Especially was this the case yesterday. The visit of the. liunanga Band on Saturday wa.s a much appreciated event. The programmes rendered li.v tlie Band were much enjoyed. It is hoped it will he possible to arrange lor further visits of this well equipped hand. A fine programme on Saturday night emu-luded with a spirited rendering of the music of the “Hallelujah” chorus and the National Anthem. THE CHRISTCHURCH CONCERT ! PARTY.
The Christchurch Concert Party is to visit/ til Y\ st Coast over the weekend. o|K‘iiing on Saturday night. it will consist of .Mrs McLaren (soprano), Mrs .Film Henley (contralto), Messrs Prescott itenor). B. Ronnell (baritone), and Turner (elocutionist). Mrs McLaren is a. very well-known performer on the Christehureh concert platform. She has a bright voice and an effective style, and tit the (lot id t\po of music is capable »i brilliant work. Mrs Henley is a dramatic , contralto and she has been studying for some time under Signor Xotariello, and has developed into one ol the best of ;tho Dominion’s songsters. 1 letvoice is full and powerful, and her range from diiep contralto to high mezzo-soprano, is surprisingly extensive. She is equally happy in operatic arias. simple hailads and straight songs'. Messrs Prescott and Rcnnell arc both good performers, and Mr j Turner is an elocutionist who is al- j wavs entertaining. | SOME EXHIBITORS. ' | The Nelson Court which has now 1 Ix'i-n completed adjoins the Town Hall in Nelson Avenue. The background | has a number of fine views of notable buildings and places, including a fine j photo of the Boys’ College, Nelson, the wharves, the Post and the hop gard-j ens. The exhibits comprise a fine, sample of apples, cheeses and a fine; assortment of cordials, including cider. 1 There i- a display of tobacco in the leaf and manufactured and of hops. Two fine slabs of marble adorn the front, the whole making a worthy exhibit of the district’s resources. Messrs Kirkpatrick and Co.. Ltd., of Nelson, have a tine stand in Nelson Avenue. They make a brave* showing of the well-known "K" brand of pro-j ducts, comprising jams, jellies, spier, j sauces, preserved fruits, and the in-j numerable other popular household re-, quirements which this well-known . brand so ably covers. !
