AUSTRALIAN AND N. 7.. CABLE ASSOCIATION. FLOOD OF LIQUOR. NEW YORK, Dec. 12. By land end sea. a holiday flood of liquor continues to pour into the Linitcd States, despite the. best efforts of the prohibition officials. New York city acts like a magnet for the rumrunners, because of its large demand and fancy prices. The boundary of New A'ork State and Queliec, which is sparsely populated stretches over 300 miles, with only 125 men guarding it. The ruin-runners are growing increasingly bold. They have a special organisation, with insurance provisions against h>'s by capture. Officials state 22 vessels, including two steamers, are. carrying liquor whose value may aggregate live million dollars. They lie outside New York harbour. Most of those vessels are of British registry. The rum-runners are not disturbed over the possibility of being unable to land their cargoes, since it is reported most of these liquors are paid for 'ey Americans before being shipped. FAKE DOCTORS. WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 Senator Copeland has introduced a resolution asking Senate nationally to investigate the fake physicians mentioned in a cable on November 24th, and whether any such are employed by the United States public health service. ’This promises to widen the inquiry into conditions which approach a serious national scandal.
