THE EXHIBITION.

PREPARATIONS IN FILL SWING. The general preparations for the opening of the Exhibition on Saturday afternoon indicate that with the rush going forward now* everything w ill he in order by Friday night at the latest. There was a large amount of work done over the week-end and yesterday. The exhibitors who arrived on Saturday night also brought with them large (|uautities of exhibits ami display material. The result was that yesterday the large annexe wore a scene of unusual activity. The many line stands being erected indicate what a grand display i-. going to be made. Folk seeing the display even in its present unfinished condition marvel that the show is such an extensive one. It seems to be exceeding the expectations of the townspeople as well as visitors. The Exhi hition will well justify its existence, and as its fame spreads will draw many hundreds of people to the Coast bent on spying out the land whore so much local enterprise is lining displayed to advertise the district. Of what there will be to see. the story will be a long one. Sir Joseph Kinsey, of Christchurch, lias sent along some exhibits which every one will want to sei*. The exhibits include a sledge used by Captain Scott in bis march to the South Pole; another used by Sliackleton's expedition on a polar march : one used hv the victorious Amundsen, who reached the Pole first. There is an ice anchor used by the Terra Nova when ill Ross sea in 1913. a pair of skis belonging to am! used by Captain Siott in the Antarctic: a Nansen cooker used by Scott and referred to in both Scott’s and Sliackleton's works. The names of the ladies and gentlemen comprising the Christchurch concert party, due here next Saturday week, are now available. The party includes, Mrs A. J. McLaren, soprano; Mrs .J. Henry, contralto: Miss AW Xaunianii. piano and also songs at tile piano: Mr \W 11. Prescott, tenor, Mr R. Renilell. baritone; Mr R. A. Turner, nomologist and sketch artist. The first concert will he oil the night of arrival, and a second concert will he given on Christmas Eve. (lit Christmas Night, in conjunction with the Exhibition choir and Hokitika orchestra. a concert will be given in the Princess Theatre.

The opening entertainment at the Orpheus Theatre will he given by the Greymouth Orchestral Society. of which Mr (’. Moss is conductor, and Mr Win. Blair secretary. There are about 30 performers, including fourteen violins. The opening piece will he the Coronation march, followed by “Myosotis” waltz. An entracte “Eventide” (strings and wood only), interposes before the grand selection “Erliaui.” There will be an intermezzo ‘‘S,unset,” and then the selection ‘‘The Pirates of Penzance.” The dual orchestral item will lie the march '‘Lorraine.” Mrs A. Stoop and Mr T. Clarke will ho the vocal soloists.

On the opening day of the Exhibition next. Saturday, the Runauga champion band will virit Hokitika. The band will render a special programme in the buildings on the band stolid. Tito programme tor the afternoon and evening will include: March.

"The Victor's Return" ; overture, ‘‘l.erst Spiel”; liiunoreske, “Three Blind Alice” : selection. “William Tell” : valse, •■•Thrills’’ ; selection “The Pirates of Penzance” ; cornet solo by W. Stevenson, champion enrnelist: (juartette “The Pilgrim,” and chorus: Handel’s “Hallelujah.” 'Flu* hand will do every justice to ibis very line programme.
