HANNAN v. McDEVITT. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND. Dee. 0. The first trial row by Pat Hannan over on the AVaitemata Harbour took place to-day. The course covers three miles three hundred yards, from above Riverlea Wlmrf to the mouth of the •Lucas Greek, north to Pine Island. Hannan had to pull against a strong -wind, and the tide was out. Rowing well within himself, and at 25 strokes to tlie minute throughout, lie covered the distance in 20 minutes 30 seconds. He was accompanied over half the course by Stevenson, the Now /calami amateur champion. The .spectators, among whom wore the members of the Harbour Board and the Hon Prudence Jellieoo, were impressed with Hannan’s style, and the suitability of the course. Hannan will go into serious training on the arrival of his trainer, G. Wareham, in a. few days. The date of the race is tentatively fixed for January 19th. MeDevitt, the challenger, is expected here next- week.
