LONDON, Oct. Iti. AVliili* n cylinder containing ammonia gas was being used in a idiigerator at a butcher's shop in Queen s Komi, Brighton, yesterday, a valve bkuv oil' and the gas spread through the shop into the street. Passers-by were attached by a tickling sensation in the throat and irritation of the eyes which caused them to weep freely; the assistants and customers in the shop rushed out wiping tears from their eves as they ran; and soon a large- crowd attracted by the commotion were taking part in the tear-shedding scene belore they realised what was happening. The lire brigade arrived and they too were reduced to tears, but altet pitting on life-saving helmets they were able to enter the building and stop the escaping gas.
