British and Intercolonial Exhibition at Hokitika.
EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING. MONDAY. DEC. 3rd. The Executive Council met at > ■•> p.iii. Present Mi',. Jeffries tin the chair). Messrs Perry. Butler. Perliam. AYild. Aitken, AYilson, Davidson, Dr Teichelmaun and the Hon. Michel. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Dalgleisli and Renton. The minutes ot the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence read and approved. The District Traffic Manager wrote supplying information for the tram arrangements on the Opening Day. December loth, indicating that there would be five trains from Greymouth, and the same number of trains returning from Hokitika. Jhe Gains suggested from Greymouth were:— 8 mm., 12.20 p.m., L-d p.m.. L4O p.ni.. 9 1. - , p.m. ; and the trains train Hokitika were’:—7.ss a.in.. 1.3 p.m.. 4.40 p.m., 0.30 p.m.. 10. b p.m.. The 0.30 p.m. departure from Hokitika would connect with the Runanga and Blacklmli t-ains. departing from Greymouih ai <) p.m. and 0.10 p.m. 4 lie letter ,va, received, the Traffic Manager to Ik- thanked for the arrangements proposed. Air C. S. Dalgleisli wrote in respect to paintings available at Cobdcn, and it was resolved to provide space tor same. The Hon J. G. C’oates. Minister ot Railways telegraphed that arrangements had been made for running through carriages from Christchurch to Hokitika in connection with the Exhibition. The telegram was received with thanks, and it was resolved to acknowledge the Minister’s action in the matter with a letter of appreciation. The Secretary of the Department of Industries wrote in respect to several matters affecting the Exhibition arrangements and the action of Air Collins was appreciated. Other formal correspondence was received with thanks. REPORTS. The Hon Michel reported having interviewed the Hon Acting Prime Minister and stated Sir Francis Beil had expressed approval in regard to the good progress ot the Exhibition. He would be present at the opening, at - living here the previous evening, and the Hon Downie Stewart would make the principal address at the Opening of ihe Exhibition.- Received. It was decided to arrange for a view of the Exhibition by the Ministerial Party at H o'clock ill the morning of the Opening Day. Air Butler reported with regard to matters he attended to when in Wei limTou last week, and suggested the faros from various towns, particularly ill the South Island where there wnrailwav connection to Hokitika should l,c advertised. This was approved and authorised as soon as the necthsat ,\ information wax available. Air AYilson reported in regard to accommodation matters which wort, progressiiig satisfactorily. The ordering of additional beds was approved and the question of accepting a tender for bed spreads was referred to the Accommodation ComniiUfc'O which accepted the tender of AlcGnier and Coy.
It was resolved that the tinaiue Committee report For next Monday s meeting in respect to expenditure to date, showing detailed analysis of same and particular, and expenditure, ill regard to which recoveries would lie* posr-TbK*. 'flic form of agreement for the hire of beds and Redding Avas approved, and it Was resolved that the material he not sold below landed cosl. The Ross Lillie Company had expressed intention ot forwarding a truck of carbonate of lime for Exhibition purposes. It was resolved to receive same with thanks. AYith regard to Fire Insurance cover this was referred to a small sub-enm-mit lee to effect tire insurance p, the amount of £2J'CO 051 Die buildings, and £1503 on the linings, including lighting plant, decorai ions, pianos, gas appliances etc. The question 1,1 sl!, ll to complete building requirements and suhsquent dismantling, was referred to me Build ing Committee, which Committee was also authorised m procure i urnii ui.e etc. for the Office requirements ami President's room.
