There are indications that, serious efforts to amend the Volstead Prohibition Act will he made during the coming session of Congress. This intimation is contained in the announcement that Representative Dyer, a 'Republican Member of the .'Judicial Committee, will introduce a measure for the legalising of beverages containing 2.75 per cent, of alcohol. MiDyer indicated there is abundant scientific proof that such beverages are non-intoxicating. He predicted that 75 per cent, of those now drinking the bootleg liquor would prefer to imbibe a safe, legal drink. Air Dyer is holding a safe strategic position, because of his membership of this important committee, lie is desirous of enforcing prohibition, and he will introduce a measure providing for the deportation of aliens violating the prohibition laws .

sidered a weak substitute for the Cur-zon-Hughos proposal. The officials, furthermore, have intimated that no American of standing, however, would accept membership of this newly proposed Experts' Committee, in view of the United States Government’s disinclination itself to participate.
