OBITUARY
[BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WESTPORT. Dee. 1. The death is announced of -Mr “A Thomas Bailie, the well-known mer- ' chant, aged 00 years. [ Deceased was tor about ten years a member of the Westport Borough Council, was one of the first members of the Westport Harbour Board, on which he served for two years, and was also t'.ir many years on the Hospital Hoard. Mr Bailie was horn in the North of Ireland, and attended school in his native land, ami arrived in Victoria in 1 5 52. He was mi t’p.e Victorian goldfields until la> was attracted to Otago, by Gabriel’s Gully, in 13(11. and was all through the Lake diggings. Air Bailie afterwards commenced business in Invercargill, whence he removed to Hokitika, in 1355, and two years later he went to Westport. Mr Bailie was for many years lieutenant in the first fire brigade formed in Westport, and he was made a J Justice of the Peace in 1385.]
