KEPT ALIVE 6 HOURS.

A *4ll*l patient collapsed altar a delicate anil dangerous operation on her brain, but was kept alive for (it hours by artificial respiration at -Manehestei Royal in-irmary yesterday. Six doctors worked in relays of two at a time. The patient, Hilda Massey. 1">. of Cordon-street. Leigm, was admitted on Saturday with a large ' tumour at the base of the brain. The tumour was remove*! yesterday morning. At noon the girl ceased breathing, but her heart continued to beat, and artificial respiration was immediately begun. In the evening, when the doctors were becoming exhausted, a machine for producing respiration by supplying oxygen was introduced, and the girl was kept alive for an hour and a had. Tn spite of all efforts, however, she died last night.
