TUNNEL TRAFFIC
There is some suggestion that at a very early date now the Railways Department will be taking over the tunnel traffic between Otiia and Arthur’s I’ass.
11 is interesting to record tint I during ike month of October, the electric motors covered 1,364 miles in transport titps. The total distance covered by the motors up to the end ol last month was 12,069 miles. There are five electric motors provided for traction purjicses. For flic month of October 12.15 M tons of goods were transported Iron’ Westland in 97 goods trains, in addition to which time were twelve passenger trains. The only dislocation of li.iffic, during the month referred to was was -50 minutes lost time through a broken pantograph due to an oversight on the part of one of the railway staff.
It is very satisfactory to glean that tin* traffic i- proving so substantial. The volume of traffic from the east to the west is not available, but there is every reason to believe it is considerable, and is a steadily increasing quantity.
