The question is one of more than passing inti'iest, especially ill view of the fact, that when ihe first section of tl;e Beauty Compel if ion Film, wliich will he shown at Urn Opera House on Friilay night, was r.oreetud in Oroynmuth last week residents of Ihe northern town placed Hokitika trills first, second and third respeef ieely. This week the second section is showing at Gremoulh and will he 1 1 rough I on to Hokitika next week, followed hy the succeeding sections in their turn. Packed houses witnessed each screening of the film, jin! an idea if lie' interest displayed in tin' competition itself may he gallg--0,1 from the fact that in addition to (he enormous number of votes registered for the seven •‘beauties'’ whose faces appeared on the screen others included in . the unscreened sections already been accorded wonderful support. "dm, Mr A. Behan presents on Friday Hie film of the (Ireymouth Trotting Club's l.abour Day meeting, at which a largo number of Hokitika residents who attended were caught unawares by the camera man. Included in the supporting programme is the classic Paramount special film. ‘‘The Impossible Mrs Bellow,” one of the pictures of the year. Friday’s programme is easily one of the most interesting presented on the West Coast, and good houses being assured early hooking is desirable. Mr Behan wishes to express his regret at the unavoidable delay in the presentation of the Beauty Competition Film. It was to have been shown on Wednesday, but Mr Behan’s strict policy of refusing to clash with any public benefit functiou precluded this.
