Beef—Another very large yarding, including consignments from the Xortli Island and also the south. The quality was very mixed hut included sonic excellent lines. Owing to the large entry the market opened a good deal easier than last week and showed little difference throughout. Prime steers made £ll Ids to £l7 Ills, extra to £2O 13s (id. medium £ll to £M. others £7 10s to £lO 10s Id; prime heifers £8 to £ll is (3d. extra to £ls 17s (3d. others £0 10s Gd to £7 Ids ; prime cows £8 to £lO ss. extra to £l3 3s. others £3 to £7 10s.
Pigs.—A large entry of both haeonors and porkers, the demand being easier in both sections, bacon prices receding owing to North Island competition. Values were; —Light porkers 15s to 525, heavy 55s to 70s. average price 7d to Sd : light haveners £3 13s to C l. heavy £4 5s to £5 7s. average j rice 7d to 7 ’ cl; choppers £2 IPs to £7. Store pigs.—A very large entry. The demand for verniers and small stores eased, luit medium and large stores sold well. Weaners made lOs to 255. small stores 18s to 21s. mediums 37s 6d to 455, large 50s- to 60s. Mutton—Another large yarding. In the face of very large entries of both beef and lamb the market consequently opened somewhat easier than last sale, and the quality was very irregular. but included a few excellent lines. More ewes were yarded than usual, and the market showed an average drop of Is to Is (Id, mostly shorn sheep. Prime wethers made 33s 671 to 395. extra to 435. medium 29s to 335, lighter down to 2Ss 6d: prime ewes 27s (3d to 32s (Id. extra to about 375. medium 25s (3d to 275. others to 21s. All quotations were on a shorn basis.
