The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INAY AR D CO HR ES PON DE N CR. From Dr A'alintine. acknowledging receipt of bye-laws, and suggesting some small amendments.-—Received and approved with one exception. From same, enclosing letter from AVaiho Committee in reference to charges made in a maternity case.—Received; a letter outlining correct facts was ordered to he sent on to the Department. From Minister of Health approving of erection of concrete tank at AA’estland Hospital.—Received. From same in reference to treatment of Maori patients. Received. From same, in reference to claims under the AA’orkers’ Compensation Act. Received. From Inspector of Health forwarding amended copy of drainage plans.—Received. From Public Trust Office, AA’ellington in reference to payment of interest due.—Received. From Hon J. G. Coates asking the Chairman to meet him on arrival at Hokitika.—Received. The Chairman said he regretted that iie had made a previous appointment, hot that Alessrs Duff. Davidson and AYells had acted in his stead. Mr Duff reported on the result of the interview, the Minister having agreed to extend the subsidy for a further period of two months and that meantime he would confer with
Cabinet on the matter of a subsidy of £30!) per year.—Received. The Chairman moved that in the event of the subsidy not being forthcoming, the Otira Hospital be definitely closed on Ban 10th. Seconded h.v Mr Jeffries and carried. From District Traffic Manager in reference to salary of ail officer. —Received. The Chairman moved that- action
he continued for ensuring payment of an outstanding account. Seconded by Air Davidson and carried. From Blenheim Board in reference to maternity home charges.*—Received. From Nurse Afc-Alillan resigning position as nurse.— Received and accepted with regret. From AY. M. Evenden, Kumara notifying election of a new Hospital Committee and asking that a new medical officer bo appointed and agreeing to supply £l5O per annum.—Received. The Secretary reported having received an application for appointment as resident medical officer at Kumara from Afiss (). Fisher of Dunedin. Air Spiers stated that the Committee had ihe mniicv available.
In accordance with the previous reso Intion of the Board the Chairman mov cd that applications he invited for i doctor for Kumara at a salary of £37f per annum, with free use of an unfurnished residence and private practice Seconded bv Air Davidson and carried.
From Tauranga Hospital Board forwarding resolution passed in reference to prisoners’ earnings.— Received and approved.
From Fibron’s Aletal Coy. in reference to contract for concrete tank.— Received. From .Matron Drennaii, Otira. in reference to services.—Received : to he requested to carry on for two months. From Otira Committee stating subscribers 'pledge themselves to raise £350 yearly: forwarding £SO 10s (id subscriptions.—Received. From Master Old People’s Home, TCuinara, forwarding £l3 8s 9cl—stock sold ; returning vouchers etc.—Received. From T. Nolan, Alatainui in reference to charges for nursing.— Received. Air Aleliarry said there was a general desire for the reappointment oi Nurse Gunn at, district imrcc. Ihe motion lapsed. It was resolved that Air Graham he appointed inspector of works of the AYailin cottage. From Otago Board in reference to a charge for maintenance.—Received. The Board declined to accept liability. REPORTS. From Surgeon Superintendent AYestland Hospital reporting on Ist. Oct. there were 31 patients. Admitted during month 1!) males, 9 females. Total treated. 39 males, 20 females—s 9. Discharged cured, 12 males, 9 females ; relieved 5 males, 2 females; died 2 males, I female. Total discharged 19 males. 12 females—3l. In hospital 31st. Oct. 19 males, 9 females —28. In hospital fintwo months—7 males. 2 females—9.— Received.
.Mr Davidson reported that Mr Graham had informed him that, he (.Mr Graham) had not authorised the contractor to alter the direction of the new cottage at Wailio. as had been stated at a previous meeting.—Report received. From House Committee reporting conditions at the hospital were in good order; that the holiday leave of live nurses was overdue; recommending a temporary nurse he secured, and that a probationary muse be appointed; notifying furniture requirements for new wing; that four electric irons be secured for the laundry.—Received and adopted ; the requirements to be procured. Accounts amounting to £035 19 s ‘hi were passed for payment. The Treasurer reported receipts 2s Kill, payments £ 1225 His Bid. dr. balance £526 3s Od. Building account payments for month £7-11 9s 2d. Building account payments to date '(.'12.31! 19s 2d.—Received. From J. Berry, wardsmnn at. Westland Hospital, applying for an increase of salary.-- Received : consideration deferred. It was resolved to renovate the office front and roof. The Board rose at Ri.ls p.m.
