It- lias, with the help of wireless messages Irom Samoa, been located as near the Solomon Islands, which are a well-known earthquake Zone. The shocks would appear to recur at intervals of about five years. One was recorded in September of 1913. and another in June of 1918. The Tonga group is also one of the susceptible spots in the Pacific, and, as most- of the others have had a turn, it is an interesting speculation whether the next great shock may eume from that quarter. LL is, however, far enough away not to affect Australasia. HICKSON MISSION. WELLINGTON. November G. The Hickson Mission opened this morning at St. Paul's pro-cathedral, patients arriving shortly after S. The organisation was excellent. A group rf nurses with eoi and chair cases was a striking and touching si cue. Inside the church the arrangements and method of the mission were similar to ilio-e at other towns. Air Hickson iirst taking urgent cases, then a stream i,l patients passing in front of the altar fur the laying-on of hands. Hie whole proceedings were character iscd hy a complete absence of emotionalism. Everything was done in an atmosphere of quiet reverence and devotion. DAIRY CONTROL BOARDWELLINGTON. November 6. Accused's counsel gave notice of appeal. ATLANTIC SALMON. WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. A point has cropped up here in connection with the licenses to fish h)i salmon, hoth quinnat and Atlantic. Tito fishing licenses at present issued hy the acclimatisation societies permit the holders to fish only for trout and peren. Tt may he necessary to issue a special license or to include the word salmon in the present licenses. It is also a question whether a special fee -liould he charged for salmon fishing. The probability is that no special- fee will he charged.
The question whether acclimatisation societies should he allowed to catch ann strip Atlantic salmon and rear try from the ova lor liberation in tilstreams of their own districts or tor sale to other societies, has aKo hee-i brought up.
