British and Intercolonial Exhibition at Hokitika.
EXECUTIVE COUNCIL AIFETING. AIONDAY. NOV. .sth. The Counel met at 7.5 p.m. Present : AJr \Y. j. Butler. President (in the chair). Messrs Perry, Perham. AYild, Aitkcn and D. J. Evans. Apologies were made for the absence of the Hon Michel, Dr Teichclmann and Messrs Jeffries and Wilson. Tho Hon Treasurer submitted a re-
port with regard to the finances. The receipts on the deposit of space to date were £3*4 8s 3d, the space available lor sale totals £3OOB. The amount of space sold and appropriated was £2031 (Is (id. The expenditure to date had been £1420 is lid, and there were accounts to bo passed for payment that evening amounting to £1.03 4s 9d, in addition to those for which cheques had been already issued. The contingent payments for commitments were £2,543 10s O. J be report was received and was discussed in detail. Rough estimates were made of tho probable income and total expenditure, and members expressed satisfaction at the outlook of the financial position. It was resolved to apply for an extension of the bank overdraft for £2,000 for three months, to be reduced by accruing revenues. It was stated
that the Treasurer had deposited at the bank £2.5!K) in guaranteed Promissory Notes with a further sum of over £50(1 to lodge. The'building material purchased was estimated at £1,00!L It was considered this would realize in the vicinity of £IOOO or £I2OO, and in addition there would be substantial recoveries from the purchase on account of beds anil nodding, etc. It was resolved to communicate with Dr Teiibeliuann in Christchurch with regard to the Art section. Air I’erhum reported in regard to tho timber products exhibit, and stated that the Forest Service would arrange for a special exhibit to be supplemented by local exhibits, and in that connection a meeting of the Timber Products Coninitleo would be held at 7.30 ]>.m. on Thursday evening next. IN\Y AR i) COR 11 ES BOX I)EXC E. From Sir Francis Bell Acting Premier. stating that the Hon Sir Heaton Rhodes and the Hon \Y. Downey Stewart bad definitely expressed their intention of being present at the opening of the Exhibition on the loth. December, and if bis engagements permitted, lie would have much pleasure in being present and would advise definitely later on that point.—Received with thanks. The President, Messrs Jeffries and Perry and the Hon Michel were appointed a Ceremonial Committee to arrange for the opening function at the Exhibition, and for the reception of distinguished visitors during the period of the Inhibition. From T. AY. AYoodroffe notifying arrangements concluded with M. Hamber to take up the duties ol storeman etc . at the Exhibition.—Received. It was resolved to arrange for Air I]amber to commence duties on the HHIi. November.

F'rum Director of Education, Wellington, stating that the Department would arrange for an exhibit, and that be hoped to personally attend the Exhibition in January.—Received. for insertion be supplied as soon as possible.—Received, attended to. From the Department of Industries forwarding letter from the N.Z. Trade Commissioner. From the Kaiapoi Company and the Department of Industries in respect to tbi- supply of blankets etc. Received, consideration deferred penning the return of Air Wilson, the Chapman of the Accommodation Committee.

Mr Wild reported in respect to an interview with the District Irailie Manager of llailwavs to the ofleT that excursion fares from Dunedin to Hokitika would commence on Dec Pith., and from all stations to Hol-itika on Ifitli. Jaiittarv. and in addition a mid-day daily train from Groymuiith to Hokitika, returning at I*l )>.m. each evening.—Received. ft was resolved lo confer further with regard to the extension of tinissue of excursion fares to Hokitika up to January Hit It. ("-Jubilee time! tit least. It was also decided to arrange for district excursions, and to communicate with the Duller Committee on a date to lie selected in regard to the "Westport excursion. The matter of additional bedding fot tile orders received in excess ol the supplies available, was left for the Accommodation Committee to deal with next week on receipt of further information. The distribution of the bedding to be arranged through Mr Hamher prior to the end of the month. The sale of season tickets would also he arranged for throngit Mr Hatnber to he taken in hand about the middle ol the month. The next Council meeting was fixed for "Wednesday, 1-lth. November.
