CASS SQUARE- XL XT SATURDAY. Next Saturday afternoon, Cass Square should he a scene of unwonted activity by reason of the fact that limn 1 p.m. to •"> p.m. a monster benefit will be in progress for the- replenishing of the funds of the Hokitika Beautifying Association. 'I lint body which is carrying out so well its self-imposed task of keeping Cass and Macandrcw Squares in order, is in need of further financial support to continue its work. Its medic balance will he exhausted this month, and as there will be always plenty to do. no doubt the citizens will he ready to respond in the inniw 1 iter desired, with further valued suppoi t. Paddy's Market will he conducted mainlv by a ladies' committee. There will be stalls of various kinds, where gifts of all classes, including clothing and fancy work, produce, vegetables, flow’ds. sweets and novelties will bo mi sale. A icfieslimcnt apartment will be hand where afternoon tea will I.C procurable. Sports of various kinds will l e ill progress. The Cycling ( lub is organising three events which should produce iulere.qting contests. The Rector and staff of Victoria School will conduct school sports, while games and novelties will le provided also, the Municipal hand will he in attendance, and render a. special programme. In order that the townspeople may attend in force, the Mayor is being asked 1,1 declare a Saturday afternoon holiv.av t rein noon to six o clock. The' Executive of the Beautifying Association will no doubt organise the afternoon on jopular line-, ensuring all pleasure mid entertainment for visite.is.
