The Hokitka Cricket Club is busily engaged in relaying the pitch on Cass Square, and it will shortly be available for play. The weather which on Saturday was bright and sunny changed during the night and steady rain fell during the early morning continuing at intervals throughout the day. An interesting talk on the art of swimming was given to a large gathering o; hoys at Christchurch on Fri- ■ day evening by Miss Annette Kellerniaii, the noted swimmer, who left t hrisiclmrch the next evening cn route to America. The speaker strongly advised iln- hoys to develop distance swimming in preference to sprinting. She explained the uses of various strokes, and described various long distance swims which she had undertaken. with special reference to her attempt to swim the English Channel. Miss Kellerinnn. who was accompanied by Mr Sullivan, handed to the hoys’ work director a gold medal, to he competed for over a half-mile course at the Y.M.C.A. hoys’ camp at Kairaki during the Christmas holidavs. Miss Kellornmn concluded by telling Iter youthful hearers about various cinema artists with whom she is intimately acquainted.
