Recently a somewhat wild hull was brought to it (and it took the ranger a full day to get it there). When it did arrive it chased the poundkeeper out of the yard when he tried to feed it. It cost the council about £2 in advertising and feed. Eventually it had to he shot, and it cost the council another C'J to bury it. The next straying hull will probably he allowed to continue straying as far as the council is concerned.
During the discussion on Mr W. D. Markov's notice of motion last evening the present utility of the trees on Cass Square came into the discussion. Ihe Mayor stated that he thought before there would be any improvement in Weld Street on the south side of the Square, it would he necessary to cutdown or at least to top the trees there, so as to allow the sun to goi to the roadway. There was a general approval that some action would ho necosssirv. Tt may he pointed out in this connection that recently on the east side the trees were topped to a certain extent on the Rrittan Street side to allow of the erection of a line for electric power hut the (nurse Pillowed means the weakening or the power of resistance ami an oaMorly would possible mean the blowing down of some of these high trees in the vicinity of the War Memorial, with perhaps serious damage resulting to iliai. We are informed that there is no truth iti the paragraph appearing in yesterday’s paper culled front the Lyttelton Times in reference to the importation of coal from Avoca for the Riniu dredge. All coal required which amounts to about throe truck loads in a year is obtained from Rewanui. Representatives of the Grey County Council and tho Borough Council met, in the Town Hall yesterday, and came to arrangements as regards the exhibits of the Grey district in the Hokitika Exhibition. It was decided that, photo graphs of the district’s scenic resorts would he obtained ; that endeavours ho made to obtain blocks of coal from the mine owners; that Mr Sidney Fry he asked to secure mineral samples; and that samples of West Coast timbers be procured for exhibition. The question of exhibiting models of the Greymouth ami tin' Point Elizabeth scheme were aRo discussed ami it was decided that if the existing models were in order they would be exhibited. A letter is also to be sent to the Greymouth Harbor Board asking their co-operation in the making of a Greymouth exhibit. Write to Madame Meticic.
