HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 th. NOTICES OF MOTION. Cr. Evans to move;—“That in view of the expansion of tho town, and the necessity for securing additional general income for tho adequate maintenance of the Borough, a. revaluation be applied for to tako effect in the 1924-23 rating year. (Note.—Last revision of valuation was in 1907, 10 years ago. Tn 1015 the unimproved value is given in the statistics at £65,1(57; in 1919, £00,534.) Cr. Heinz to. move : —‘‘That applications be invited for a competent person to act exclusively as Borough Overseer at a salary of £.150 per year. The position to he advertised in the Hokitika and Chiistchmvh papers, and the person appointed to !e deputed to reorganise ihi> stall' tu meet requirements.’' Cr. Mack.iy tn move:- "That the consulting engineer be directed to prepare plans and estimates for the raising. widening and draining of the section of Weld Street, lying between Bealev and Biitlan Streets, and 'that, immediately on receipt of the Engineer’s report, the above works be undertaken."

Note. - The closing of .Stafford Street throws nearly the whole ol the traffic to and from the Hokitika basin and tho south into Weld Street, which leads straight to tile middle of Revell Street; the new factory will shortly add immensely to the demands on the street; it (the .street) is prominently before visitors and the residents of the town: the street is unfit for traffic, unsightly and is a discredit to- t lie Town and the Council.
