IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. A COLOURLESS REPORT. LONDON, Oct. 15. The Imperial Conference delegates returned from the Chatswortli Conference, and reassembled in the afternoon. As Mas anticipated, the report of the Imperial Committee on Defence Mas taken up on the statement by Lord Salisbury (chairman of the committee) who outlined the subject in general terms. ’ The chief speakers following Lord. Salisbury More Mr Bruce and Mr Massey. Merely incidental reference was made to the naval side of the question. A sitting for its fuller consideration Mill probably he held on Wednesday. To-morrow the Economic Conference resumes, when the question of transport is likely to be debated and airship possibilities discussed. SECRECY OVER FOREIGN POLICY. LONDON, Oct. 15. The Imperial Conference decided that to-day’s proceedings are not to he pt'.hlisheii. It is still unsettled Mhen the debate on foreign policy will be continued. To-day’s communique shows that the Irish delegates did not attend. It is understood laird Salisbrtty’s statement on Empire defence dealt on broad principals, and not on the details ' of defence. Messrs Mackenzie-King, Bruce, anil Massey briefly contributed to the discussion. LONDON, Oct. 15. Lord Salisbury made a statement at the Imperial Conference on Imperial defence, as chairman of the committee appointed early in the year to report on the naval, military and air defences of the Empire.
