THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
WaNTKI)—'EFFICIENCY JEncIXEKHS. “Sir Eric Geddcs said that in America, since 1921, there has been an all-over improvement of 15 per cent, in the industrial efficiency of the operator. Think what it would mean to Great Britain if the same thing had happened. For every man employed, the output of industry would ,h e 15 per cent, greater. Of course, that does not mean fewer men wanted, and therefore more employment. It means exactly the opposite. It means cheaper goods produced, and therefore a greater demand for British goods abroad and increasing orders and employment. '.Sir Eric Geddcs is right when he says that there is a wide field in Great Britain for the efficiency engineer and his methods. Having based our industrial system oil machinery, the least that we can do to make it tolerable is to make that machinery as perfect as it can he. Along those lines there is room for a vast expansion of national wealth”—London “Daily Chronicle.”
