AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. DAY BAKING OF BREAD. CARTERS’ ULTIMATUM. SYDNEY, October 15. Since night baking lias been abolished. bread carters are compelled to finish their runs late in the evening in consequence of the delayed time of stalling and so the Union for months past lias been endeavouring to secure a partial return to night baking, or other arrangements to enable the carters to finish earlier. The employers arc also dissatisfied with, day baking as it entails delay in deliveries till the bread is baked or else it necessitates runs being commenced with the previous day’s bread.
The operatives, hacked by the Arbitration Court award, have icsolutely refused to give way oil the issue and so the bread carters have now Issued ail ultimatum. They will he refuse customers. from the 27th. after five o’clock. The chairman of the meeting explained that the ultimatum meant, if carters were in the middle, of their rounds atfive they will take the bread back to the shops.
DARING ROBBERY. SYDNEY, October 15. A daring safe robery was perpetrated at tlio Captain Cook Hotel at Moure Bark in the early hours of this morning. A safe in the office wn-s Mown open, and £l5O was stolen. Twenty boarders were on the premises at the time. They were awakened by the explosion. and saw two men escaping across the park. An investigation showed duplicate keys wore used to obtain an entrance. MEMORIAL TO RIFLEMEN. SYDNEY. Oct. 15. In connection with the New South Wales ride meeting, a memorial to nearly 000 New South Wales riflemen, who perished in the- war, in the .shape of an avenue, was opened. Each tree along a lengthy avenue represents a different rifle club, and a tablet alongside hears the names of the, members who fell. RIFLE SHOOTING. SYDNEY. Oct. 15. Donald VICTORIAX FLOODS. MELBOURNE, Oct-. 15. Although the skv is clear, Hood waters continue to pour down from the hills. Fourteen suburbs have been damaged, Abbotsford, Hawthorne and Richmond, being the worst sufferers. Country reports indicate that desolation is widespread.

SLOWNESS OF MANUFACTURERS. SYDNEY. Oct. 15. The annual report of the Tariff Board stales that one of the hoard's greatest troubles has been the slowness of the manufacturers to take advantage of the deferred duties provided by the 1921 tariff, which becomes operative when each manufacture is established in the Commonwealth. During the year, S 3 commodities, mostly from Germany, were gazetted as liable to the dumping duly, out of IS7 applications for the imposition of the duty.
