The tote took £28,719, as compared with £31,051 on the second day the previous year making a total of £15.979 compared with £50.252 last vear.

Mr Joel, who has released the jockey Steven Donoghne, to ride Papyrus, said that he had abandoned his intention to witness the race, because the sporting quality had been taken away by the inequality of the horses. He understood that Papyrus was in had condition, and would carry a greater weight than Zev.
