[UV TELEGRAPH—I>EII PRESS ASSOCIATION.] POLE ERECTING RECORD. PALMERSTON X., Oct. 8. A record in pole erection for dectrie power reticulation was established by the performance of a gang at Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board’s men today. 10.3 poles, over nearly four miles, having been erected in 7 hours 20 minutes. The cost of erection w - as approximately 4s fid each. This feat was made possible by a combination crane and lorry, invented by Mr W. A. Waters, Engineer.to the Board, which lias reduced the erection costs to about one-fifth of forinorlv.
HEALTH WEEK. DUNEDIN, Oct. 8. A Dunedin Health Week Campaign was launched to-day, when special instruction was given in all the primary and Catholic schools on health topics. A comprehensive exhibition, designed t,i eoitvov information on all matters pertaining u> public health, was opened in the evening, and a large public meeting was addressed by the Hon W. D. Stewart and Dr Yalintine. The Week’s campaign will be followed by a ( leaning Up Week. MINISTER OF MINES. WELLINGTON, October 8. Tlie Minister of Labour (Mr Anderson) interviewed, in (regard! to the statement made by ID - IT. E. Holland, -M.P., Leader of tho Labour Party, to the effect that it was, obvious that tho Crown Law Officers based their opinion submitted to the Mines Minister on tho ex-parte statements of the mine owners, said Mr Holland was quite mistaken' in this statement. The opinion of tho l«iw Officers had been arrived at after the facts of the ease from all points of view, had been obtained and submitted to them by the Labour Department, and after considering the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and the terms of tho award. An ex-parte statement, from the mine owners was not .submitted to, or obtained by, the law officers on the matter.
ALLEGED BURGLARY. DUNEDIN, October 8. At the police Court Joseph Vernon Williams, alias Christie, was charged with the theft of £OO. postal notes etc., of a value of £lO2, th 0 property of the Otago Farmers’ Co-op., whose safes were dyiwmitedl on September 29th. He was remanded for a week. CHINESE ASSAULT. AUCKLAND, October 8. A. proseentfon took place, ns the result of a stabbing affray at the Marker Gardens at l’aninurc, Ah Chu flourishing a garden fork and wounding Shing in the face during an altercation. Shing was in the hospital for eleven days. It was heard in the police court to-day. Owing to the reluctance of tile chief Crown witness, a charge of wounding so as to causes actual bodily harm preferred against Ah Clm aged 27. was reduced to common assault, accused being convicted and ordered to pay costs £4 12s. Magistrate remarked that Blice Siting, tlie Chinaman assaulted, had made up his mind not. to get Ins countryman into trouble, and it was useless to send the ease to tlv Supreme Court.

AUCKLAND, Oct. 5. A property ill Queen Street, between His .Majesty’s Aremle and the Afetropolitan Hotel, with a frontage of 23ft. with a two-story brick building, was sold for £ 18.50 ft, a little over £BO4 per t# foot.
ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. NAPIER. Oct. 8. (Jerald Edward Knowles, managing director of the G. 1.. Knowles Coy., Limited, was charged at the Court today with making a false document, a promissory note for £321, signed “Kerslake and Billons, Levin Chronicle.” He was remanded till Friday off substantial bail.
