GIRL’S REASON FOR BURGLING.
WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. The case of the young woman. Alarion Jean Lewis, who pleaded guilty to entering houses and stealing goods, was disposed of to-day at the Supreme Court. Counsel said that her imagination had been set on lire by reading a French novel dealing with the success of a woman ill baffling the police in .somewhat similar exploits. Air Justice MacGregor said that the case was apart from the usual cases cf theft as none of the property was disposed of, lint she had put the country and police' to a considerable amount of trouble. He ordered her to come up for sentence if called upon at any time during the next two years, her father to pay the costs of ihe prosecution and enter into a security for her good behaviour. BOY INJ FRED. BLENHEIM, Oct. 3. Yesterday a hoy named Charlie Brown, eight years old, was run over by a chaff-cutter at Sedduu. His leg was badly crushed and his thigh seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital. GOVERNOR-GENERA L. WANGANUI, Oct, 3. The Governor-General arrived at. Wanganui. He played golf on the Springvalo Links in the afternoon and attended the Competitions in the evening. To-day, as Grand Master of the Alasonie Lodge, he attends a .Masonic function.
CROWN LAND COMMISSIONERS. WELLINGTON, Oct. I. The appointment of four Crown Land Commissioners is announced. Mr W. F. .Marsh (Commissioner at Ilawkes Bay) has been appointed Commissioner and Chief Surveyor for South Auckland at Auckland. Mr IT. .1. Lowe (present CoiumisN,inner at Taranaki) has been appointed Commissioner and Chief Surveyor for North Auckland district. Mr R. S. Galbraith (now at Invercargill) becomes Commissioner for Otago with headquarters at Dunedin. Mr K. M. Graham (Chief Draughtsman iu the District Land Survey Office at Wellington) lias been appointed Commissioner and Chief Surveyor for fnverenrgil!, in succession to Air Galbraith These appointments create vacancies at Ilawkes Bay and Taranaki, which have yet to be filled. .MOTORIST FINED.
