The monthly meeting of the Chamber was held at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock. Present: Air T. AA'. Dull (voted to the chair), C. •!. Nightingale, R. AYild, S. J. Ford, AY. AVilson,
F. Al. Brodie and D. Evans. Apologies wore made for the absence of Messrs G. A. Perry and AY. J. Butler. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondent e approved. 3 NAY All D CORRESPONDENCE. From Hastings Chamber of Commerce,' submitting remit for the November conference at Auckland suggesting that all “strike” ballots among trade unions be conducted by public officials, thereby removing control ol the ballot from officers directly concerned in the issue. —Received and generally approved as a stop in the right direction. It was resolved to refer the proposal to the Chamber s delegate.

AA itli regard to railway tariff rates, it was considered advisable to defer action at present to nwait the effect of the development of trade between the East and \) est. In respect to competitive trade by .shipping it was resolved to urge the Greymouth Harbour Board in view ol the funds in hand to review the port charges, and have the wharfage rates
in particular recast, so as to encourage more shipping and thereby lessen transport costs. Jo regard to suggested motor eoaeli service on the railways, it was resolved to make very strong representations to have a trial made on the llokii ikr.-Grcymouth section if railway, with improved passenger service connection with Ross. In respect to railway extension south, it was agreed to defer consideration for a month
From G.P.0., Wellington, circular in "regard to reduced postage, and drawiuu attention specially to the cheap for postal matter affecting gen-i-rat advertising.—Received and satisfaction expiessed Thai ike Department was taking a forward step in regard to these matters. GENERAL. It was resolved to meet in future on the first Alondny in the month, in lieu of the first Tuesday, to avoid clashing with other meetings. An account for Otira motor mail service was passed for payment, also I's for the advertising effort by the AA'hite Star organisation. AA’ith regard to the Alotor Afail service to Otira tho matter of discontinuing the Chamber subsidy at the end of the year was approved, as the train service now arrived within a short time of the motors, and the advantage to the business community which formerly existed was not .now apparent. The meeting concluded at 8.30 p.m
