A fatality occurred yesterday at Jensen’s mill at Turangarere, the victim Going a young unmarried man named Phillip Becker, aged about twenty-five. Deceased was working in the bush, when the bight of a wir<> rope struck him on the chin, breaking his neck and killing him instantly. Mr Smith has been connected with the municipal life of the city for over forty years. GISBORNE HARBOUR WORKS. A LARGE EXPENDITURE. GISBORNE, Oct. 2. The Harbour Board reversed its previous decision,. to construct the harbour works by day labour and resolved that the following works lie done by contract: Diversion of river, erection of walls, a railway bridge, a thousand feet additional berthage, breakwater extension, and a mam breakwater. Ail expenditure of L'75n,0(111 is involved in the scheme.
