BEER WITHOUT ALCOHOL.

LONDON. Aug. 10. Americans will be able to have all the beer they want as the result ol an invention for which piatent protection ha-- just been granied to a ignited States citizen named Engel. The flavour of good beer, quite apart from what- alcohol ir contains, is due largely to by-products formed by the fermentation which produces the actual alcohol. Thus, if the alcohol can he removed from beer, the beer will still possess a natural flavour which no ordinary substitute for beer could possess. The new invention consists of a refrigerating drum which turns round in a vat of beer. The watery beer lorms a Irozen layer round the drum, and the alcohol which remains liquid at the freezing point of the water is scraped front the frozen boerv Inver and run off. The layer of watry beer t- then melted, when it gives a liquor containing all the bouquet and flavour of beer without anv alcoholic, contents, and it can be drunk with impunity tit the “driest” country.
