At the inquest on Ramsay (killed on 30th August) the Coroner found that the motor ear in which Ramsay was seated wos negligently driven, and he committed the driver, Maefarlane, lot trial on a charge of manslaughter. Sept. 20. 11l the Asembly to-night, on a private member's motion moved hy Mr Cairn, the Government suffered a dramatic defeat, though not much political significance is attached thereto. Mr C'anii moved that the-granting of titles was contrary to the sentiments of tho people of New South Wales, lie said the granting of titles was a standing disgrace. He condemned the manner of their bestowal. After a short debate the motion was carried hy 30 to 23. Mr Lang (Leader of the Opposition) stated he accepted the vote as a deliberate expression of Parliament. It would ooen the way for a much needed reform. The system was a scandal nid a disgrace. On the motion of Sir 0. Fuller, the House immediately adjourned.

DUTY ON BUTTER. SYDNEY. Sept. 25. The Central Executive of the Primary Producers’ Union, passed a resolution requesting the Minister of Customs to increase the minimum duty on imported New Zealand butter to three pence per pound.
