INQUEST ON TOOMBE.
. A DRAMATIC FEATURE. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. (Received this day at 1.0 p.m.) .LONDON, September 25. ’The evidence of two women, in deep mourning, and heavily veiled and whose names were not disclosed, was a dramatic feature of the dose of the Tnombe inquest. Mrs Dyer, a good looking young woman was al-o in the bniirt. The Revd. Gm-don Tnombe detailed the long search for his son. He identified a large niitid-cr ol cheques oil Ills soil’s hanking account which were forgeries. They had been first written iu pencil and then the signature was inked over. Tho first mystery woman proved to be the unknown friend (cabled' on 13th) who told D.vcr that she believed Tooinbe mot with foul play. K.he gate evidente that s'-e met Tnombe in the summer of 1918. He stayed with her frequently. She expected to meet Tnombe on th o 25th. of April. 1022. Instead Dyer came, bitter, "ilness became .suspicions and -aid she was gi iug to Scotland Yard. Dyer replied that he would blow bis brains out. The second witness was a young girl who gave evidence Unit she was engaged to marry Tnombe wham she met Dyer in April. 1022. They said they were going to Dyer’s country place. Next day she went to Tooinbe s flat ill it ay market and found a telegram there saying: “I shall he away, writing.” While she was there Dyer telephoned. Later lie came to the flat, drunk, and said that he did not know "here Eric was. Dyer stayed at the Mat that night. I left mm there the next morning. When 1 returned in the afternoon 1 found Dyer packing Toomhe’s clothes. He settled Tonmbe’s bill at the flat and took me and a girl friend out to dinner. When he paid the bill li c told the owners of tho flat that Tnombe had gone abroad.
