The. directors of the Hokitika Gas Company have set apart £IOO lot’ the preparation of a distinctive exhibit to he displayed at the local Exhibition at the end of the year. The plans for the exhibit are now being prepared specially, and a lino display will bo made.
The usual weekly euchre tournament will he resumed at the Soldiers’ nail to-morrow evening. The tables will bo set in the. main hall, special prizes will be awarded. The ladies’ committee will make the usuhl arrangements for supper. A jolly dance will lollow the cards.
l’or various reasons it lias been decided to hold the Hospital Ball at Kokatahi on Labor Day. Monday, 22nd. Oct., instead of tile following Wednesday as previously announced. A special prize will also lie given tor the best decorated basket by children under 1-1 years of ago. Bonetti’s Jazz Band will supply the music for the hall.

The Grounds and Lighting Committee of the Exhibition Executive "ill meet at the County Chambers at 7.110 o’clock to-morrow evening. To-morrow afternoon at 2.110 the sub-committee of the Arts section inspect Carnegie Library and confer with the Libiarv Committee regarding bousing valuable loan pictures over the period of the Exhibition.
The Puller District is going thoroughly into the Exhibition movement. The Midler County and the Westport Borough Councils have cached voted £SO towards a. district display, which has been supplemented by £2O from the Bnller Farmers Dairy Coy., towards the cost of n district display in the Westport Avenue at. the forthcoming eqhibition.
Work about the railway station is steadily progressing, a large number of men being employed. A ballast engine was brought down and stationed here, the work having advanced sufficiently to necessitate regular ballasting to b" carried out. At present the vicinity of the railway station is in a state ot chaos, but the next few weeks will see order come and then the improvements being effected will be seen to advantage.
Next Saturday will he Soldiers’ Sale day at the Rcvell Street depot. It will be the last of the present series towards the ILS.A. Building bund campaign to clear off the debt on the Soldiers' Hall. In connection with the provision of better facilities for telephonic equipment on the West Coast now being provided by the Post and Telegraph Department, the line from "Ross to liari Hari is to be doubled, and the work will be started within the next few weeks, so as to have the telephones ready for the holiday season. The whole of the improvements proposed in connection with trunk lines on the 'West Coast will be completed in time for the Hokitika Exhibition, when it is expected there will he a lot of additional toll traffic. The next telephone directories issued in Oreymouth will contain a list of Hokitika suhscriliers in addition to those already included in the directory. The idea of so combining Oreymouth and Hokitika is to deal moio efficiently with communications between the two places. The change should prove a great convenience to subscribers in both places. Under this scheme. Reef ton, Oreymouth, Kumara, Hokitika and Ross will he all combined in one telephone directory.

The directors of the Hokitika Gas Coy., have voted £IOO towards a special works display at the Hokitika Exhibition.
Despite the wet evening there was a good attendance at the Princess Theatre last night, when McLean’s Pictures presented a very acceptable programme to the audience.
Owing to the Forestry Service having acquired Messrs Wells Bros., property at Woodstock, Messrs W. Jeffries and Co have been instructed to sell their dairy herd. Particulars in another column.
A grand concert and ball will be held in the Town Hall. Bimu. on Wednesday, Oct. 10th., in aid of the Catholic School. Bimu. A capital programme is being arranged for the concert, and good music for the ball.
On Wednesday next, at the One Mile Hall, Arnhura. a grand euchre and dance will be held. As usual capital prizes will be given for the euchre, while for the dance Bonetti’s full jazz hand will lie in attendance.

At ih" Magistrate's Court, Greymouth, yesterday, H. It. Barrett, oi Cobden. claimed damages from G. It Williamson, a motor car driver, for injuries and damages to clothes caused by a collision. After hearing evidence, the Magistuito (Mr Moldrumi said there was nu great doubt as to the cause of the accident. Plaintiff’s evidence showed that lie came on to tile bridge from rhe light and was attempting to cross to bis left which he bad a perfect and legitimate right to do.
