At the opening session of the Australasian Boxing and Wrestling Championships, the contests were lively, and the New Zealanders rendered a good account of themselves. Bovton, who uses a good left, outpointed I’eet. English out-pointed Smith. Muir out-pointed Thompson in fast and clean fighting. .McDonald obtained an advantage with heavy swings to the head. The . first and second rounds were even, in the third and fourth there was much heavy punching. Griffiths attacked /consistently, his first two rounds being even, and ho finished strongly. .Tones out-pointed O’Neill on a hard fight. The loser was game, and clinched in the last round. The winner was good with both hands. The results of the w restling were Light-weights—lV. Adams (Victoria) heat Proctor (Queensland) on points. F. Adams (Victoria) beat lord (New: South 'Wales) on points.
Middle-weights—Jaasund (Victoria) beat Young (Queensland) in two fails. Bantams—P. . Boyton (New South Wales) heat Peet (Victoria). Middle-weights—T. English (New South Wales) beat Smith (Queensland). Feather-weights.—Muir (Queensland beat Thompson (Victoria. Welter-weight. MacDonald (beat Ainsworth (Victoria) on points. Bantam-weights.—Griffiths beat Harley (Victoria). Middle-weight.—Dwyer (Tasmania 1 beat Martyn (Victoria). Feather-weight.—Purdy heat Sullivan (Victoria). The winner used a good left lead, and showed hoadwork and footwork, fie won every round. ;
