The game in tile first spell was uninteresting, neither side showing any initiative or variation in attack. The tackling of the visitors was lamentably weak. while that of tho home team was not much better. New South Wales were superior in the serums ami Miiigity made many openings which were not availed ol by the hacks, with the exception of Sheehan, who played a heady game. The spell ended three all, a try by G. Donald to a penalty goal by Stanley. The second spoil was much more interesting. With the visitors mostly on the aggressive. Wairarapa added tries by (J. Donald, Booth and Jury, to one New South Wales try, converted by Notlding.
SOUTHLAND V. S. CANTERBURY. INVHRCARGIL. Sep. 19. In brilliant weather, and on a dry ground, Southland heat South Canterbury. The winners scored 27 (six tries, three converted, and a penalty goal) and South Canterbury scored three (one unconverted try). For Southland, Shaml scored four tries, and I!. Onghton and Richardson one each. O'Connor scored lor South Canterbury. WAIKATO BEATS WELLINGTON. HAMILTON. Sep. 19. The Rugbv foot ball match, Wellington v. Waikato. drew a large crowd. The visitors were without the services ( ,| Nicholls and Moflilt, who had returned south. 11 was a fast game, play going up and down the held, the visitors showing good passing.
