GREECE AND ITALY.

AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. LEAGUE COUNCIL. GENEVA, Sept. 17. The League of Nations Council held a secret meeting this morning to discuss the Italo-Grcek position. Lord Cecil delivered a speech, in which a broad hint was given to Italy to make herself right in tlie eyes of tlie world, now that the matter is more or less satisfactorily settled. The proceedings were characterised by carefully chosen diplomatic language, calculated to give offence to no one, yet brimful of unmistakable innuendoes regarding what members of the .League would require of signatories of the Covenant. BRITISH FEARS. LONDON, Sept. IS. Signor Mussolini’s sensational action in appointing a Military Governor for Fiume, which the Rapallo Treaty prescribed should he a free state, was quite unexpected in London, where the general impression was that Signor Mussolini had thought better of the throat implied in the so called ultimatum, which reserved the right of full liberty of action if the question were not settled by Saturday last. There is stated lo he reason to fear that the latest move will mean a renewed crisis between Borne an Belgrade. Tlie latest advices represent Fiume a-s in complete control of the Italianwho have most formidable forces in or near the vicinity.
