ARAHUR.V FAT STOCK SALE-
At the above fixture yesterday, 06 head of cattle were yarded for public competition to the usual attendance of buyers, several of whom were only speclators, having the previous week visited the Addington market and obtained some 40 or 50 head for Coast requirements, maintaining that they c-ould buy cheaper there than at the local yards. Notwithstanding the absence of these competitors, competition shewed no decline on the previous market, prime cattle selling equal to last rates. Several of the lots submitted would have, however, been better classed in the store pens, especially do these remarks apply to the cows and heifers. The top price of the day was obtained by Mr J. Messrs M. Houston and Co. report:—Our entry at the above .sale yostherday comprised 100 fat sheep and 03 head of fat cattle. There was a large attendance of buyers and competition was good throughout the sale, the full yarding being cleared at very satisfactory prices. Beef showed a big drop on iho extreme prices ruling at the previous sale, and in many lines a decline of £3 to £4 per head was recorded. This is accounted for by the fact that several consignments were brought to northern butchers from last Addington sale, with the result that prices adjusted thebselves to U'e Addington basis. Best ox beef sold up to 455, medium 425, good cow and lieifer beef from 35s to 40s per hundred. Fat sheep sold at Into rates. The following were the sales:
